LEXINGTON, Va. – A new addition at a retirement home in Virginia is serving up meals and smiles. It’s a robot, named “Alfredo.”

Alfredo’s primary job is to bus dishes. With the press of a button, Alfredo will head to pre-set stations throughout the dining room and kitchen. He can also serve food and drinks.

At $1,000 a month, the culinary director says this equates to paying Alfredo $7 an hour.

Just like other restaurants in the industry, staffing is a challenge.

He won’t replace human staff – who make $15 an hour – but he can literally “lighten the load.”
