Bob’s Discount Furniture, an American furniture store chain headquartered in Manchester, Connecticut, plans to open next month in the Shoppes at Glenbrook.

The company opened its first store in 1991 in Newington, Connecticut, and now has about 162 stores across 24 states and over $2 billion in annual sales, according to the company.

“We’ve had exponential growth,”

Charles Croft, regional manager for Cincinnati Metro, Indianapolis & Kentucky with Bob’s Discount Furniture, said.

The 30,000-square-foot Fort Wayne store, 125 Coliseum Blvd. W., will be one of 14 in nine states that the company plans to open this year, Croft said. This will be the company’s fourth location in Indiana with two in Indianapolis and one in Merrillville.

Each store hires 20-30 and the store is already fully staffed ahead of the 9:30 a.m. Sept. 2 opening, which will include donations of $2,500 each to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana and Girls on the Run Northeast Indiana. Visitors can also get free ice cream, coffee and cookies at its in-store cafe, which is a staple. Each month the cafe collects donations for a local nonprofit.

The company’s modern farmhouse furniture is a reimagined take on the farmhouse trend, Croft said. For example, its Cottage Chic 6-piece dining set with bench, ladder back and upholstered chairs and a weathered-style table sells for $2,199.

Bob’s also has multifunctional furniture, such as the lights built into some of its furniture such as nightstands.

Bob’s is adjusting to changes in lifestyles.

“We found out during COVID that the dining room table is now your desk,” Croft said.

The “Discount” in the name means “Bob’s done the work for you” in sourcing good buys, Croft said.

It also has an omni-channel strategy that allows customers to fill a cart online and bring it to the store. “We allow guests to shop how they want, where they want, when they want,” Croft said.

They will find in-store the same pieces for the same price as they do online.

“We’ve never run a sale,” Croft said. Though, it has dropped prices, he said.
