Norwalk Furniture is bringing global trends to High Point Market with European shapes and retro-inspired color palettes.

HIGH POINT — A new generation of furniture buyers is about to experience a fresh interpretation of a retro-inspired aesthetic.

In numerous showrooms open for High Point Premarket, the wraparound comfort of plush fabrics and curvaceous frames highlighted a palette of terracotta tones, dusty blue hues, and soft-glow golds, a nod to vintage designs updates for 21st-century consumers.

“We’re showing a lot of organic shapes and textures,” said Caroline Hipple, CEO of Norwalk Furniture. “Everything we saw in Milan was a shape; we didn’t see a right angle anywhere.”

Hipple added that trending fabric textures and colors continue to underscore the importance of comfort throughout the home.

“Boucle is an extension of hygge,” she said, referencing the Norwegian concept defined by a mood of coziness and well-being. “And these earthy neutrals pair beautifully with amorphous shapes. We have the equipment to make these shapes that take up a lot of visual space in open floorplans, and that work well for consumers with large family rooms.”

Digio Leather Sofas offers 40 sleeper styles featuring Italian leather in trending color hues.

Digio Leather Sofas is showing “Italian design for the American market,” said Peter Halunen, president of sales USA, Canada, Americas. Touting the product line as a “solution to challenges of the Asian market,” Halunen noted the company’s sleeper sofa options as one must-see upholstery piece for High Point Market.

“We have more than 40 styles of sleeper sofas in the Royale line, priced between $1,999 and $2,499,” he said. “All of our hides come from Italy, and we’re showing rich colors and tailored seating, paired with a high-quality mechanism that allows everything to stay attached when you open the sofa bed.”

At Sunpan, indoor and outdoor styles showcased similar trending aesthetics. Roland Maddrey, key account manager for the company, said that Sunpan’s strategy is to “furnish any room in the house, floor to ceiling.”

“Outdoor has become extremely important,” he said. “Think about the people you know and how much more is spent on ‘externals.’ People spend more money on things other people see, and many consumers who might not want to spend $599 on an indoor sofa won’t hesitate to spend $1,299 for an outdoor sofa.”

Whether indoors or for the outside space, product trends at Sunpan include comfortable frames, warm color tones and multifunctionality. Sculptural forms are also prevalent for fall, as are chairs described by Maddrey as “eclectic.

Bernhardt’s new Stratum collection is described by company officials as “glam transitional” and showcases organic shapes paired with fresh material mixes. Also debuting for fall market is Prado, a collection defined as “rustic modern with classical details” with features including coffered frames, a design detail that lends a 3D effect to beds, chests, dressers, and desks.

Bernhardt will also bring new looks to the Bernhardt Interiors collection including a 1970s-inspired dining table and chairs, as well as additional SKUs to the company’s outdoor and home office collections.

“We will have at least 20 new items for our exterior line, and we will show new finishes and mixed materials,” said Heather Eidenmiller, director of brand development. “We will also have two new home office groups at market in response to consumer demand. People want something more elevated if they are working from home, and our new collections will address this need.”
