Possibly the most important factor to consider when purchasing any outdoor furniture: how durable are the materials it’s made of?

By its very nature, outdoor furniture is subject to the elements. Sun, wind, rain, frost… unless you’re willing to move your garden sofa inside whenever you’re not using it (which is, let’s face it, unlikely) – you’ll want both the base and cushions of your garden couch to be weather resistant.

Look for bases made of hard plastics, resin wicker, aluminium and treated (or coated) wood. Cushion covers made from durable, water and UV protected fabrics like polypropolene, which can be easily wiped down and washed are also ideal.
